DIY Motion Capture

Spring 2018

This project was a lot of fun but very anti-climatic.  I was in the middle of working on Fear at this time, and I was trying to find a solution for making animations.  I had wanted to try some sort of motion capture, but I didn’t know where to look.  After a little searching around, I found a motion capture at home solution.  This video convinced me to give this a try for myself.  I had quite the adventure actually hunting down a Kinect and adapter for an affordable price.  However, I managed to pick up the necessary components only a couple days after watching the video.  Setting up the Motion Capture system took about one solid week and about 8+ hours per day.  I really enjoyed see the fruits of my labor, but the final product wasn’t up to par with the quality that I wanted for Fear.  The entire process was fascinating, and I don’t regret the time and money invested for one second.
